David Alexander Collection

The David Alexander Collection contains a wide-range of materials relating to Pomona College’s institutional history, including administrative correspondence, event materials, and building and campus organization files. The bulk of the collection includes materials previously housed in the Pomona College President’s Office and spans over a century in scope, from 1888 to 2001.

Carroll Jr. Carroll taught at Pomona from 1949 until 1983, and was a key actor in the development of Pomona's art history program. Abstract Professor Ch'en Shou-yi (Chinese: 陳受頤, 1899-1978) was a Chinese scholar known for his groundbreaking contribution to the comparative cultural studies of modern China and the historical studies of Sino-Western cultural exchange. He was born into a prestigious literati family in Panyu, Canton (Guangdong). Ch'en Shou-yi graduated from the Canton Christian College (later Lingnan University) in 1920. Fiske (Kenneth G.) Papers

Abstract

This collection contains the personal papers of violinist Kenneth G. Fiske, who joined the Pomona College faculty in 1936. A musical prodigy, Fiske studied at many prestigious music programs and under prominent European and American instructors. At Pomona, Fiske taught the violin and was the conductor of the college's symphony orchestra. Materials include correspondence, sheet music, audio recordings, writings, and teaching materials.

This collection contains the papers of John Howe Gleason, Pomona College professor of English History. Gleason led a distinguished teaching career and authored texts on English and British history. He travelled extensively in Europe, studied at Oxford University, and earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University. This collection contains book reviews authored by Gleason, reviews by others of his own work, research notes, correspondence, news clippings, navy training manuals, and maps.

This collection contains documents relating to Edwin Clarence Norton, the first Dean of Pomona college. Norton served as Dean from 1893 until his retirement in 1926, but was active at the college since 1888. These papers contain autobiographical materials, speeches, correspondence, and other materials relating to Norton's life and especially his time at Pomona College and in the Claremont area.
